What can only be billed as the world’s greatest bus journey, heading west from London to New York was fully boarded and made a prompt 7 am departure from Cleopatra’s Needle on London’s Embankment on Sunday 21st March. This is the trip of a lifetime for anyone wishing to see the world from a more adventurous perspective other than an altitude of 35000 feet. Passengers on the trip range from an 18 year old student to an 81 year old grandmother.
The full 96 day trip is comprised of an extraordinary 15000 mile journey that the 20 intrepid passengers will take. The inaugural ‘London to New York’ bus trip is currently rolling through Europe to Russia, where passengers will hop on board the Tran-Siberian Railway to while away the vastness of Russia in iconic style. A sea crossing from China to Alaska on a 16 night cruise on the Diamond Princess takes the trip up to day 54, at which point it resumes its journey on wheels, travelling through Alaska, Canada and the United States of America, passing through The Great Lakes, Chicago, the Yellowstone National Park and San Francisco before arriving in New York City on 24th June.
Highlights of the trip will also include accommodation in a traditional Mongolian ‘ger’ (yurt), and a homestay on Russia’s Olkhon Island – the world’s biggest lake-bound island Apart from a section by sleeper bus in parts of the USA, most of the bus journey will be taken in daylight hours allowing passengers to soak up the changing scenery by day, and local life, culture and customs by night.
The bus will pass through three continents, 16 countries and at least 12 American States, allowing plenty of time to soak up an astonishing diversity of people, cultures and places along the way, experience once-in-a-lifetime tours, and witness close up some of the world’s most iconic sights.
Bruges, Prague, Warsaw, Vilnius, Riga, Tallinn St Petersburg, Moscow, Beijing - the Great wall of China, Xi-an – the Terracotta Warriors, Busan – South Korea, Vladivostok, Sapporo, Alaska, Denali National Park, Seattle, San Francisco, Yellowstone National Park, Chicago, Niagara and the Great Lakes are just some of the stops on the Oz-Bus London to New York route, before the bus rolls up in New York City.
In the new standard set by Oz-Bus since the launch of its 92-day London to Sydney service, and as today’s ethical travellers might expect, adventure and safety sit alongside responsible travel as paramount to the Oz-Bus’s appeal.
Throughout the rest of the year Oz –Bus is also running several trips from London to Sydney (92 days), London to Kathmandu (46 days), and several trips both Down Under and across Africa.
