Am I eligible for a working Holiday in Australia?
The Australian working holiday visa is open to people aged between 18 -30 years of age from the countries listed below:
Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, HKSAR* Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey and the USA.
*Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (includes British National Overseas passport holders).
An arrangement with Bangladesh has also been signed, but is not yet in effect.
How long can I stay in Australia on a working holiday Visa?
The working holiday visa allows you to holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months. It is possible to apply for another 12 months visa if they have worked for 3 months in seasonal work in certain regions.
How long can I work for my employer for?
You can work with one employer for a maximum of 6 months.
How much can I earn?
On average you will be paid around AU$80 – AU$120 for a full days work.
Will I have to pay Tax?
Yes. You can expect around 30% tax to be deducted from your wage. This can be claimed back at a later date – but could be as late as when you return home.
Will I need to open an Australian Bank account?
You will need to set up a bank account in Australia for your employer to pay your salary into as they won’t be able to use your home account. You can set up your Australian account before you leave home and transfer some funds into it for when you arrive. When you arrive in Australia you will receive your ATM Debit card allowing you to access your cash 24 hours a day.
Can I leave and re-enter Australia once I’ve started my working holiday visa?
You can leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while your Australian visa is valid.
Can I apply for a second Working Holiday Visa?
Only people who have worked in a specified industry in regional Australia for a minimum of three months (88 days) while on their first Working Holiday visa, may be eligible to apply for a second Working Holiday visa.
What is primary/specified industry work?
There are several primary industries including plant/animal cultivation, fishing, tree farming, mining and construction work.
There is always plenty of work all year round in the primary industries – particularly in agricultural work.

You can find primary industry work in Western Australia in Broome, Kununurra. In Bundaberg, Childers, Toowoomba and Cairns regions in Queensland. And in Katherine and Darwin in the Northern Territories.
What is the cost of a working holiday visa?
The Cost of an Australian working holiday visa is currently AU$230. This non-refundable fee must be submitted when you lodge your visa application.
