Working Holiday Visas

The Australian Working Holiday Visa provides an opportunity for young people aged between 18-30 from selected countries to holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months. The young person is permitted to work for an employer for up to 6 months and it is possible to apply for another 12 months visa if they have worked for 3 months in seasonal work in certain regions.

The Australian working holiday visa allows you to:

  • Work in Australia for up to 6 months with each employer;
  • Enter Australia within 12 months of grant and to leave and re-enter Australia any number of ;times while the visa is valid;
  • Study for upto 4 months.

Who is eligible for an Australian Working Holiday Visa?

You may apply for an Australian Working Holiday visa if you hold a passport for one of the countries or regions participating with Australia in the Working Holiday Program:

Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, HKSAR* Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey and the USA.

*Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (includes British National Overseas passport holders).

An arrangement with Bangladesh has also been signed, but is not yet in effect.

Age

Applicants must have turned 18, but not turned 31, at the time of visa application.

Charges

The Cost of an Australian working holiday visa is currently AU$230. This non-refundable fee must be submitted when you lodge your visa application.,/p>

Obtaining a second working holiday visa

People who have worked in a specified industry in regional Australia for a minimum of three months (88 days) while on their first Working Holiday visa, may be eligible to apply for a second Working Holiday visa.

You may return to work for a previous Australian employer for a further 6 months once you are issued a second working holiday visa.
